Youth Unlimited YFC Centre Wellington (the Door Youth Centre) is seeking a Youth Worker who has a love for kids and a passion for those who are falling through the cracks, to work in a full time ministry in a youth drop-in centre in Centre Wellington, ON. This location offers need-based programs and school visits during the week; is supported well by the local adult constituency; and has a team of volunteers to support and back the successful candidate. The successful candidate must have relevant experience with youth, strong administrative and communications skills and be willing to raise 100% of your support.

Position Overview


ROLE: Youth Worker

REPORTS TO: Ministry/Community Director

ROLE SUMMARY: The primary goal of this position is to contact youth for the purposes of building relationships and creating opportunities for conversations about Christ that lead to discipleship. This will involve direct ministry to youth, partnership development for prayer support and operational funding, community networking, and the recruitment and development of youth leaders and volunteers.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT 

  1. Be a visible member of Youth Unlimited YFC ministry team within the community and help facilitate the engagement of local churches and like-minded agencies 
  2. Attend and/or speak at churches & community events to increase Youth Unlimited YFC profile and share the love of Christ. 
  3. Network with social service groups and resource agencies in the area, to provide services for teens and liaison when the need arises
  4. Participate with the volunteer Community Engagement Team (as requested)

MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT 

  1. Using a collaborative leadership style, assist with the development and implementation of community-focused ministries and ministry operating plan.
  2. Participate in training & care of youth leaders and volunteers with particular attention to their personal & spiritual well-being.
  3. Where assigned or in absence of supervisor, provide leadership and ensure support and accountability for ministry team members.
  4. Collaborate with other chapter staff to run chapter-wide strategic ministry events
  5. Contribute to team unity and collaboration.

MINISTRY ACTIVITIES 

  1. Recruit, develop and coach youth leaders and volunteers to achieve ministry plan
  2. Lead and/or supervise program(s) for community youth and/or children
  3. Build relationships with youth for the purposes of evangelism & discipleship
  4. Provide spiritual mentoring, teaching and whole person care & development for participants
  5. Abide by the annual ministry budget
  6. Assist with other ministries across Highlands as the need arises
  7. Assist ministry in the broader Christian community, where practical
  8. Collect data and make observations to facilitate regular assessment of current program(s) effectiveness

MINISTRY PARTNER DEVELOPMENT 

  1. Develop ministry partner relationships that will provide personal support for ministry in the areas of: prayer, deputation finances and through direct volunteering.
  2. Assist in effective ongoing communication with all key stake-holders (partner organizations, donors, staff and volunteers)
  3. Assist Ministry/Community Director in facilitating sustainable resources for ministry needs through networking, mobilizing effective partnerships and fundraising (events, corporate sponsors, foundations, government grants etc).

  3. Be a faithful, contributing member of a local church
  4. Fully participate in the life of the chapter: gatherings, retreats, prayer, celebrations, training, external communications. 
  5. Hold self accountable to supervisor and mentor/accountability partner
  6. Form a personal support team: prayer, encouragement, wisdom, finances
  7. Pursue learning needed for growth and development in the role
  8. Complete credentialing program with YFC Canada
